Duets – there are some that are just amazing! Others maybe not so much.
du·et /d(y)o͞oˈet/: noun – a performance by two people, especially singers.
What makes the difference? Why does one make your heart sing while another makes your ears bleed? I honestly don’t know! But, let’s discuss anyway.
First, let’s take a look at some of the worst duets ever recorded. I’ll bet you didn’t know some of these even existed, which makes sense since really bad songs don’t usually get a lot of airplay.
1. Eddie Murphy and Michael Jackson: “What’s Up With You”
Yes! These two collaborated on a song. Here it is:
Seriously, you have to watch it. It’s…something! They way they sing “whatzupwitu” – too much!
2. Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone: “Sweet Lovin’ Friends”
Another surprise, at least to me. These two teamed up for a musical movie!
Check it out!
3. Frank Sinatra and Bono: “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”
This.is.extremely.bad. Listen for yourself…
Enough, enough, I know. Stop the bleeding!
Let’s move on to the best duets.
1. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys: “Empire State of Mind”
Do I have to say anything about this?
2. Aretha Franklin and George Michael: “I Knew You Were Waiting”
3. Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie: “Endless Love”
Eve and Gwen Stefani: “Let Me Blow Ya Mind”
Okay, there are a million duets that are good and honestly, this probably falls into that category but I like it 🙂 So here it is!
Now, for the best part. Those above are the best and worst but when we’re talking about karaoke, we kinda don’t want to sing over Frank the way Bono did and most of us can’t sing.
So here are the top karaoke duets that you’ve actually got a chance at making cool and most of all, fun!
BEST KARAOKE DUETS
1. Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow: “Picture”
I’ve seen this done a bunch and it slays every time. The good news is you can “twang” it up a bit and get that southern thing going for even more fun!
2. Brandy and Monica: “The Boy Is Mine”
You can make this happen and is great if you’re at a GNO.
3. Elton John and Kiki Dee: “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”
Now, this is a classic. Everyone knows it and it’s super fun.
